Cio-Cio San.

Today I bought my ticket to the opening night of the Sarasota Opera Season. The opener is Puccini's Madame Butterfly, a canonical opera by my favorite operatic composer, and one which I have never seen. As I am an opera lover and a Japanophile (and as Weezer's Pinkerton is one of my favorites) I am extremely excited to finally see Butterfly.

It just occurred to me that this probably explains why the Sarasota Players decided to do Miss Saigon. I guess I'm a bit slow on the uptake.

I haven't missed an opening night since I was 12, so I'm pleased to continue the tradition of lowering the mean age by thirty years. I'm also continuing the tradition of being escorted by my gaggle of older gay friends, who raised me to be the catty, gossipy bitch that I am. God bless them.

Now to find an appropriately swanky dress and I'll be good to go.
